Bailey Cross in his football jersey

Bailey Cross, a student on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport programme at Eccles Sixth Form College, has recently been made captain of the safety position for the under-17s Great Britain American Football Team. Nurturing this kind of talent in the next generation of athletes is at the heart of these programmes at Salford City College, and Bailey’s continued success with the team is a testament to his perseverance and determination during his studies.

Getting students involved with real teams and sports is central to how the programmes at Eccles operate. With so many opportunities for young people in Salford and beyond, students of our Sports Diplomas have countless routes to explore a wide range of sports that interest them. Bailey’s commitment in securing a spot on the team, and continuing to rise through the team, represent years of hard work and training. He was recently made captain of the Safety position in the team, one of the most critical roles as the last line of defence. Gaining a promotion to captain of this position is a clear recognition of the trust the team places in Bailey and his abilities within the team.

The team run training camps at universities across the UK, including the University of Derby and the University of Nottingham. This training is run with an American All Stars Team.

Our vocational courses always emphasise this kind of real-world involvement in the field, alongside theoretical classroom learning. By giving our students the space that they need to explore their own passions and interests, and helping them grow their skills and knowledge base, we hope to give them the best chance at a successful future.
